Extending the capabilities of Wholesale Business Internet

Telstra Wholesale Business Internet™ (WBI) is a complete, ready-made internet service, built on Telstra’s best-in-class fibre network. We launched WBI in 2021 and have continued to evolve the product to offer you more capabilities. At Business Connect 24 we announced two major additions to WBI.

New technology options

First, we are integrating the nbn® traffic class 4 (TC4) as a carriage option within WBI. With asymmetrical download and upload speeds, nbn® TC4 is designed primarily for general internet and standard data services. It could be a great business backup service, or a fast start while a more robust fibre service is being constructed.

Second, we are adding Telstra 5G Fixed Wireless as an access option. It’s the first time we have taken a data product into the 5G realm. Offering Telstra Fixed Wireless using 4G and 5G on the Telstra Mobile Network adds a range of opportunities for resellers, from being able to provide service in more areas, to providing an alternative service for resiliency through network diversity.

To start, we will offer the new options on a ‘bring-your-own-device’ basis. For Telstra 5G Fixed Wireless, we will provide a SIM for you to use in your network termination unit (NTU), router or SD-WAN device. For nbn TC-4, you supply your own NTU and we’ll provide the internet. We are currently working with some vendors to explore options around providing a device as an option for you in the future.

The benefits of more access options

Expanding reach to more locations

Telstra Wholesale Business Internet already uses our expansive fibre footprint across Australia. However, adding nbn® enables us to extend our reach to 12 million addresses. When we don’t have fibre nearby, we can still help you connect your customers.

WBI expands the possibilities for SD-WAN

One of the most important benefits of adding new technology options is the possibilities it creates for you to build SD-WAN solutions.

It's becoming ever more common that we deploy a WBI solution alongside a TC4 solution. The TC4 solution is usually a resiliency option, either as an SD-WAN input or as a standalone backup service.

Offering TC4 within the WBI solution makes it easier for you to buy and deploy these services. Our fibre network is separate from the nbn® TC4 network, which gives you a greater degree of redundancy. The same is true of our 5G Telstra Fixed Wireless service. All three options can go into one SD-WAN solution for greater resiliency.

Faster delivery

The additional technology options also gives you greater flexibility in terms of delivery. We already offer Rapid Mobile Activation on new services. Now, you can choose between Rapid Mobile Activation, nbn TC-4, or Telstra 5G Fixed Wireless if you want to set up an interim solution while we deliver the primary fibre service. Getting your customers connected faster helps you to generate revenues sooner.

IP included

Telstra Wholesale Business Internet is a Layer 3 solution, so we include the IP component no matter the technology you choose. For WBI over nbn® Traffic Class 4, in the first instance, we'll provide a dynamic IP address. But we’ll soon offer a static IP address option too.

Giving you more options for meeting end customer demands

Each of these access options has its strengths and use cases.

Fibre offers higher, symmetrical speeds for great performance on business-critical applications. We offer speeds from 20 megabits right through to 10 gigabits per second on WBI fibre.

Telstra Fixed Wireless provides access to business grade 5G connectivity. It’s a great alternative in those hard to get to locations and ideal as second access in SD-WAN solution.

Nbn® TC4 offers high speed asymmetric service at a lower price. It’s useful in areas where fibre services may not be available.

We have updated our MESH platform so that, as soon as you put the address in, it'll give you the option of all three of these. The platform will qualify all the three technologies upfront. You will be able to assess a site for Telstra Fibre/ Telstra Fixed Wireless and nbn® Traffic Class 4 in a single quote. You can then work with your customer to determine the best available access option.

Flexible commercials

We are making commercial bundles available to support your SD-WAN use cases. If you have a multisite opportunity with a primary fibre service and you want a backup service using one of those other access technologies, we can do a bundle commercial offer for further discounts for those sites.

The product's flexibility allows you to tailor how you use the various connectivity technologies. For example, you could use nbn® TC4 service as an interim while you wait for the fibre to be deployed. Once the fibre service is delivered, you can cancel that TC4 service again without charge. Or if you'd like, you can keep the TC4 service as a backup and downgrade the speed, upgrading speed only if required.

Backed by the Green Guarantee

WBI fibre services are backed by our Green Guarantee. We offer a "Green Guarantee" to ensure you have confidence in the costs you have been quoted and communicate to your customer. When you request a quote through our systems, you'll receive a colour-coded result (green, amber or red) based on factors like the availability of fibre infrastructure at your location.

A green result indicates that your site is ready for a fibre connection, and we guarantee that any additional costs associated network linkage charges, will be covered up to $50,000. This guarantee provides peace of mind and helps ensure a seamless fibre delivery experience.
